Simona
Mango was born in Bern and grew up in Naples as a Swiss and Italian
national and as a German and Italian native speaker. She also
speaks French and English and is studying Russian and Spanish.
She
studied classical singing in Rome with Amedea Nogas-Perrino, Margaret
Baker-Genovesi and Doris Andrews. From 2001 to 2003 she attended
all semestrial mastercourses at the Ateneo Internazionale della
Lirica (Sulmona) with Margaret Baker-Genovesi, Dario Lucantoni
(Conductor) and Italo Nunziata (Stage director). In 2004 she attended
Sergio Segalini's mastercourse at the Accademia di Arte Lirica
(Osimo). She also took part in masterclasses with Gabriella Tucci
and Mirella Freni and had the privilege of perfecting her art
with Luciana Serra.
She performed the roles of Suzuki (Madama Butterfly, Rome, Palazzo
Barberini, May 2000), L'Ostessa (first performance of Il Miracolo
del Corporale by Alberico Vitalini Savona, Conductor Piero Gallo,
November 2001), Rosalia (West Side Story, Tivoli, Festival Euro-Mediterraneo,
Conductor Boris Brott, July 2002), Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice by
C. W. Gluck, Mannheim, Musikhochschule, October 2003), La Madre
Superiora (Mese Mariano by U. Giordano, Osimo, Teatro La Nuova
Fenice, May 2004), Fenena (Nabucco, Sulmona, Teatro Maria Caniglia,
March 2005), Marta and Pantalis (Mefistofele, Chieti, Teatro Marrucino,
April 2005), Dorabella (Così fan Tutte, Rome, Teatro Don
Bosco, April 2006), L'Opinion Publique (Orphée aux Enfers,
Biel - Solothurn, Switzerland, January - May 2007), Lola (Cavalleria
Rusticana, Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, October 2010).
Her concert career, which in the last few years became the most
important part of her activity, began in 1996 and includes oratorio,
Liederabend and opera recital.
In July 2002 she was awarded the 2nd Prize and Audience Prize
at the "C. A. Seghizzi" International Chamber-music
competition in Gorizia with pianist Leonardo Angelini.
She sang amongst other things in staged concerts of Banchieri:
Il Festino del Giovedì Grasso (Chieti, Teatro Marrucino,
February 2003), in a Mozart-Requiem tour in Sardinia (Conductor
Massimo Pradella, July 2004), in many Porgy and Bess and West
Side Story - Concerts in Abruzzo with the Quartetto Accademia
(December 2004 - June 2006), she gave a recital at the Festival
Pianistico di Spoleto with pianist Filippo Belloni (May 2006),
performed Mozart's C-minor Mass (Conductor Claudio Micheli, Rome,
June 2006), sang Bacalov's Misa Tango in Porto and Famalicão
(Conductor Ernst Schelle, May 2008), Haydn's Theresien-Messe and
Vivaldi's Magnificat (Bern and Solothurn, Capriccio Basel, Conductor
W. Derungs, May 2008). In July 2009 she gave two concerts with
bass Kazuhiro Kotetsu and pianist Kayo Yamaguchi at Alba Music
Festival. From June 2007 onwards she gave many recitals with
pianist Hansjürg Kuhn, with whom she also recorded the live
album "Sogno d'amore (Müller & Schade, Bern). In
2010 she formed a new duo with pianist Irène Hirt, with
whom she recorded the live CD "Canciones de amor y otros
amores".
In 2003 she took up teaching singing, which she continues today
with great dedication.
